A Business Reliability System can verify public customer journeys, private internal workflows, or both. The product remains the same: a customer-owned reliability system configured by W3Patterns to continuously verify the workflows that keep the business running.
The right deployment model depends on where the workflow lives. Public workflows are usually fastest with the W3Patterns Fast Start Image. Private workflows usually require a server inside your environment.

Recommended public deployment: DigitalOcean Droplet.
For most public-facing Business Reliability Systems, W3Patterns recommends DigitalOcean because it provides fast provisioning, predictable pricing, simple ownership, and a straightforward server model.
The W3Patterns Fast Start Image is designed to reduce setup time. The image already includes the W3Patterns deployment key, so configuration can begin as soon as the server is provisioned and W3Patterns receives the server address.
Fast Start process
- Create a DigitalOcean Droplet from the W3Patterns Fast Start Image.
- Assign networking according to your organization's requirements.
- Send the Droplet IP address to W3Patterns.
- W3Patterns configures the Business Reliability System.
- W3Patterns validates the first workflow and alerting.
- Your organization reviews, accepts, and owns the completed system.

Most first deployments are lightweight. The exact sizing may change as you add workflows, increase check frequency, or retain more historical data.

The system needs to reach what it verifies.
For public deployments, the Business Reliability System usually verifies websites, public APIs, SSL certificates, DNS, and customer-facing workflows over the public Internet.
For private deployments, the server must be placed where it can reach the internal applications, APIs, databases, identity providers, or business systems being verified.

After project acceptance, your organization may retain this key for future support, replace it with a customer-managed key, or remove it entirely according to your security policy.
Access principles
- Key-based SSH access is preferred

A deployment is complete when the system is installed, the agreed workflow is verified, alerts are tested, documentation is delivered, and the customer has reviewed the result.

Can this run in AWS, Azure, or another provider?
Yes. DigitalOcean is recommended for Fast Start public deployments because it is simple and predictable, but the Business Reliability System can be deployed into other customer-owned environments when appropriate.
Does W3Patterns keep access forever?
No. The customer owns the system. W3Patterns access can be retained for support, replaced with customer-managed access, or removed after project acceptance.
Can this monitor internal applications?
Yes, when deployed inside a private environment with the required network access. This is often the best model for internal portals, private APIs, databases, and company applications.
What if we are not sure which deployment model we need?
